Message Title: Preparing for Christmas
Scripture: Jonah 1:1-4
As Christmas gets closer a lot of us
will be inviting or attending church for the first time in a long time. Which
is great? I just want us all to receive the fullness of this day.
Christmas can lose its meaning if we
are not careful. It becomes about presents, family gatherings, parties. We
might even say things like Jesus the reason for the season. All wonderful
things but that’s only half of it.
I want to share with the story of Jonah;
I know not your typical Christmas story.
Jonah 1:1-4
1 Now the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai,
saying, 2 “Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and
cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me.” 3 But
Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa, and found a
ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with
them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.
4 But the Lord
[a]sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty
tempest on the sea, so that the ship was about to be broken up.
Now some of us that will
be attending these Christmas parties, church services and family gatherings are
struggling due to the fact we are being disobedient to God. The same as Jonah
and are suffering the same as he did.
Yes, Jesus is the reason
for the season. This season requires repentance. You cannot celebrate Jesus
birth without realizing that Jesus birth and Jesus death are connected. Jesus
was born to save the mankind from sin.
Please this year don’t just put a tree buy, some gifts,
attend a church service and forget why Jesus was born.
Turn your sin over to him
and allow him into your heart not for the Christmas season but, for a life
change. When you do, now you can experience Christmas every day.
